Safety is a top priority for us, in regard to both our own business processes and the use of our products.
Global management system
We have defined globally applicable standards for safety and environmental management, which are implemented through our internal management systems. The primary focus is on minimising safety risks and reducing the Group's environmental impact as well as on the efficient use of energy, resources and materials. The management systems are in effect at all Linde locations, and our measures also extend to contractors and other business partners. In this way we implement our obligations as set down in our company guidelines for safety, health, environment and quality (SHEQ). The SHEQ department coordinates the global implementation of safety and environmental protection within our business areas.
To further improve our performance in regard to safety and environmental protection, we continuously analyse potential weak points in our business processes. To this end, we have implemented a global system to record and assess incidents, including accidents, product leaks and near misses. Monitoring extends to our sites as well as to the transport of our products and their use by customers. We communicate the knowledge gained from this incident reporting system internally in an effort to learn continually.
Raising awareness for safety and environmental protection
We systematically train employees in occupational health and safety, product stewardship and environmental risks. In terms of safety, we ensure that relevant examples of best practices are prominently visible. Moreover, each year the company presents the Linde Group Safety Awards in three categories: best site or business, best group company, and best progress in reducing accident downtime.
Collaboration with communities
In the field of safety and environmental protection, we also cooperate with local communities. Initiatives include:
- Joint emergency exercises with local fire fighters and civil protection organisations
- Support in the event of transport accidents
- Salvaging and disposing of gas cylinders
- Safety information events
- Trainings for handling dangerous and easily flammable gases
- Providing the local community with clean water and / or drinking water
- Campaigns for better road safety
- Participation in activities to clean the seacoast and rivers
