- Measuring sustainability
Sustainability is a principle upon which corporate strategy rests. It combines the long-term creation of economic value with environmental and social responsibility. Our core strategy is aligned to global megatrends. The focus is on energy and the environment, healthcare and dynamic growth in emerging economies. These areas are relevant in the sustainable development of our society..
As laid out in our global corporate responsibility policy, we are committed to behaving responsibly towards people and the environment and to conserving natural resources.
In doing so, we pursue two strategic goals: to reduce risks to our business and to our reputation, and to capitalise on opportunities that arise because of considering sustainability – both in our business processes and in our relationships with stakeholders. As a result, Linde follows the basic principles of sustainability – which is one of the four principles embedded in the Linde Spirit. The Linde Spirit defines the company's basic values.
To uphold these principles, we have introduced a range of commitments for responsible business activity, which we implement via global management systems.
|Integration into core business||Continuous improvement|
|When developing corporate responsibility activities, we look at our main business processes and the lifecycle of our products. We help our customers to develop more sustainable processes, and we expect our contractors and suppliers to join us in working towards our sustainability goals.||Linde continuously analyses how sustainability enables the Group to exploit business opportunities and minimise risks. We use key performance indicators to compare sustainability performance across the world and to set specific targets.|
|Engagement with stakeholders||Transparency|
|We adapt our corporate responsibility activities to reflect the needs of our stakeholders and society.||We report regularly and publicly on the progress we have made in key areas of Corporate Responsibility.|
Our corporate responsibility activities are aligned with international standards and guidelines, which we recognise and support. They include:
- The German Corporate Governance Code
- The United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights
- The OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises
- The ILO core labour standards
- The United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights
- The principles of the United Nations Global Compact
- The Responsible Care Global Charter
